Appointments System

Please make a separate appointment for each person.  Appointments are booked at 10 minute intervals for nurses and 15 minute for GPs - if you wish to discuss more than one problem you may be requested to make a further appointment. Appointments for our Practice Nurses may be booked in advance.  If you are unable to attend an appointment please let us know as soon as possible. 

Morning appointments

The majority of these are pre-bookable for the day you wish to be seen/ spoken to, we reserve a few for on the day appointments. We have a few pre-bookable appointments available in the morning from 07:30 designed to cater for the working person.

Please telephone between 8.30 am and 10.30 am.  However, for continuity of care please ask for an appointment on the day when your usual GP is in surgery.

Appointments to see the doctor are made on the day you wish to be seen.

Afternoon appointments

The majority of afternoon appointments are pre-bookable (up to one week in advance). The availability of pre-bookable appointments is dependent upon the number of doctors on duty that day.

Urgent appointments

Urgent cases will be seen as soon as possible, please be considerate if someone needs to be given priority.  Appointments may be made in person or over the telephone.  

Online booking

Appointments can now be booked online by clicking here. if you wish to use the online booking through this website please visit the surgery with ID to be given your log in details. Alternatively you can register for the NHS app and use this.

Our Reception Staff

Our team of receptionists and office staff will be available to help you at all times.  They may assist you in deciding upon the most appropriate professional for you to see or contact.

Parking

There is patient parking at the front of the surgery premises, including a space for disabled parking.  There is also a ramp for wheelchair and pram access.

Telephone Consultations

Doctors and nurses are available to give telephone advice where appropriate.  Our receptionists' will ask you which GP you usually see about your problem and will then take your details to pass onto the GP. The receptionist may be able to give you an approximate time that the doctor will telephone you back. For non-urgent advice, messages can be left for the doctor to contact you at their earliest convenience. To speak with our nurse, the receptionist will take your details and inform the nurse on duty that day.

The nurse will telephone you back as soon as possible.  Please make it clear to our receptionist if the problem is of an urgent nature.

You may be asked to call back at a specific time.

Home Visits

If possible please try to telephone reception before 10am if you require a home visit.

A doctor or nurse may phone you back as it may be that your problem can be dealt with by telephone advice, or that it would be more appropriate to send a nurse, or indeed arrange a hospital attendance.

House visits are only available for patients who are housebound because of illness or disability.

Please remember that several patients can be seen in the practice in the time that it takes to make one home visit. There are also better facilities for examining and treating patients at the surgery.

Cancel an Appointment

It is important that you inform the reception staff if you are unable to attend your appointment, this will allow that appointment to be offered to another patient. If you fail to notify the Practice that you are unable to attend, you will be sent a letter informing you that you have defaulted from your appointment. Persistent defaulters maybe removed from the list.

You can also complete our appointment cancellation notification request form. This can only be used if your appointment has been arranged for more than 24 hours in advance. (excluding weekends and public holidays). You can also text to cancel your appointment.

Text Reminder Service

We have a texting service which allows you to receive confirmation and reminders about your appointments.

To have this service you will need to register by completing a consent form.

Please remember to update your contact details with us when you change address, telephone numbers and email address.

Late For Your Appointment

Please attend your appointment on time, if you are late you may not be seen. If you are not seen you will not be able to rearrange your appointment until the next working day-except in the event of an medical emergency that requires immediate attention.

Interpreter

If you require an interpreter to attend with you when you see your Doctor please notify the receptionist and she will arrange this for you.

Extended Practice Opening Hours

Extended hours are available at Hill Barton Syrgery on Tuesday mornings between 7:30am and 8:30am for pre-booked appointments, no telephones are available at this time.

If I pay for Private Treatment how will my NHS care be affected?

As a NHS surgery we do not carry out follow up treatments or investigations asked for by Private providers, this includes for example blood tests, dressing changes and wound checks....

Before entering into a private procedure please check that follow up appointments are included.
